Vedic Approach to Resolving Emotional Crisis

Are problems an essential part of life? Where do these problems come? Why do we use quick fixes instead of resolving these problems completely?

Most people, facing a multitude of problems in their life, do not tend to ask, let alone finding answers to these questions. When you do not ask intelligent questions, you fail not just to resolve those problems and, as a result, face an absolute crisis, where salvaging becomes difficult.

A Perspective is a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something, and even a point of view. Vedic Rishis (or sages) call it Drishtikone. Vedic Sanskrit word Drishti translates to Eyes, and Kone can be understood as Side or Angle of View, so Drishtikone can be understood as the side/angle from which you see any given situation.

Against conventional wisdom, everything you see, do, and feel, without thought, is the augmentation of the mind. And you must always remember that you are neither the mind nor the body. That which your mind perceives as Truth could as well be Scoptomathings mind sees what it chooses to see.

Consider this; we all know that everything in life is virtually cyclic, including those stock markets. That scrip on the stock market, which has gone up, has to come down. The only way to make the best of it is by remaining uninvested in that scrip emotionally and making decisions objectively. When we are too attached to a scrip, which is so not going to be attached to us in any way – it is sure to cloud our judgment and may cost us dearly.

Why only Stock scrips? Look at the life of any leading political leader or even a celebrity. A political leader who may have risen to power with mass support is sure to lose his power sooner or later. It is, therefore, only wise to decide when to relinquish control. But how many politicians in recent history have abandoned their position of influence by their own volition?

A celebrity who may have been the heartthrob of one generation is barely loved by the next. Yet, in their heydays, such stars are so overwhelmed by their popularity that they consider themselves to be infallible.

The crowd that once followed a celebrity as if a savior wouldn’t even recollect them a few decades later. It is not that these political figures, or celebrity “legends,” don’t understand the transient nature of their power or popularity. It is just that their minds so sway them that they refuse to see the Truth. As a result, when they fall from grace – they are crushed by it.

Whenever an individual feel desolate or is reeling under severe stress, it is only natural for them to seek addiction or even suicide. Even though modern medicine has achieved a great deal, it is yet to find a concrete solution for stress, strain, and resulting depression. Medications are short term fixes and not long-term solutions.

So, why haven’t modern medicine been able to find a credible cure for mental stress?

Modern science often confuses the mind with the brain. When there is a problem with the mind, it reflects in the irrational actions of the body, including rage, and insomnia. The medical approach is to prescribe sedatives which limit the faculties or brain – partially or wholly. But once the effects of these sedatives wade off, the mind is back in charge of the brain.

The medical approach is to prescribe sedatives which limit the faculties or brain – partially or wholly. But once the effects of these sedatives wade off, the mind is back in charge of the brain.

The mind consists of ideas and thoughts. If you choose feelings of helplessness, chance, and luck – your mind will function in ways supporting those ideas undermining your potential. But if you choose thoughts of perseverance, persistence, and forethought – the mind will utilize every faculty of your body to work to its fullest potential. So, you must be very cautious with what thoughts or ideas you feed into the mind of yours, consciously as well as unconsciously.

If you have fed all the wrong thoughts in that mind of yours – your mind will most certainly fail to see a solution and, on the contrary, think and act in a self-destructive way. When people are in trouble, it is often because of a wrong idea or thought in mind. You can never get out of a problem with the same ideas and thoughts which landed you in trouble in the first place.

So, change of Drishtikone, or Perspective, is crucial. The philosophy of Drishtikone is first to stop seeing the problem in a situation and start looking at cases objectively. When you see things for what they are, without anxiety, fear, anger, frustration, ego, or envy, you can see not just one but multiple sides of that situation. Every situation that arises in this world is always with two sides. In the vast sea, it doesn’t matter where the wind blows. If you can set right your sail, you can go in the direction you choose. The sea is the world, winds are the situations, and the sail is the mind.

Always remember that no matter how the worse situation you may be in, only you – yourself can get out of it. Others can, at best, provide you with suggestions and insights. The final decision to seek, ask or work on the ideas you get is entirely yours.
